Mix ingredients into a smooth batter. Using deep fryer, heat shortening to 365 degrees. Heat rosette iron by dipping 15 seconds in the hot shortening. Drain off excess oil or blot it on paper towel. Dip mold in the batter – hold it level and do not let it come over the top of the mold. Dip batter-coated iron into oil. Fry until brown. Drain by tipping iron. Put on powdered sugar.
