Chocolate Pie

  1. Bring milk to a boil. Mix together ¾ c. sugar, cocoa, flour, 2½ T. cornstarch and egg yolks and add to milk. Cook over moderate heat until mixture thickens. Boil 1 minute. Add butter, salt and vanilla to mixture. Cool. Pour into cooled, baked pie shell.

  2. For meringue, mix cold water and 1 T. cornstarch and add to hot water. Boil until thick. Cool. Beat until stiff the egg whites, sugar added gradually and a pinch of salt. Add cornstarch mixture and beat until stiff, but not dry. Put on top of pie and bake about 12 minutes at 375 degrees until meringue is browned.
