Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/3 cup white syrup
  • 2 1/4 cup sifted cake flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/2 cup milk

    Cream shortening, vanilla and syrup. Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Stir ΒΌ of the dry ingredients into the cream mixture. Stir in the rest of the dry ingredients alternately with milk. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in two prepared 8-9 inch layer pans at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
