
Fried Doughnut Twists

Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and spices. Combine egg, sugar, butter and orange rind; beat thoroughly. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Stir just enough to blend.

Chill several hours or overnight.

On lightly floured board, roll dough 3/8” thick into rectangle 9½ x 7 inches. Cut strips 3/8” wide and 7” long. Fold each strip in half, twist ends around each other and pinch ends together.

Fry in deep fat heated to 375 degrees; turn doughnuts as they rise to surface. Fry 1-2 minutes or until golden brown, turning each to brown both sides. Drain on absorbent paper. Roll in sugar if desired.
